The Weed Family (Doug, Roberta, Michelle, Julie, Melody, Krystal, Stephen, & Charity Rose )

Location: Mexico

Ministry: Doug was saved off the streets of Shreveport, Louisianain 1971, from a life of drugs and gang involvement. The Lord sent three young men out on visitation from theCalvary Baptist Church,who from the Scriptures showed him his need of salvation. When they were done, he accepted the sinless shed blood of the Lord Jesus as payment for his sin. The Lord called him to preach soon after he was saved and confirmed that calling while he was a student at Tennessee Temple University. He met his wife Roberta at Temple and they were married on April 19, 1980. It seems that they took (Genesis 1:28) quite literally and began to be fruitful and multiply, as a result Michelle, Julie, Melody, Krystal, Stephen, and Charity Rose are God’s heritage to the Weed family. All six of their children have grown up on the mission field and are all serving the Lord today.

They began their ministry in 1979 at the Gospel Light Baptist Church, in Scottsboro, AL, as the Youth Director. They served the Lord there for (3) years and in 1982 the Lord called them to the Maranatha Baptist Church, in Yorktown, VA, to serve as Youth Director under Pastor Dale Coffey. In 1984, Maranatha ordained Doug into the ministry as their Associate Pastor. They served (8½) years at Maranatha, when in 1990 the Lord called them to the mission field of Mexico. They have presently served (19) years in missions work with Fundamental Baptist World Wide Missions in Memphis, Tennessee. This includes deputation, language school, three terms on the field and two furloughs. The Lord has allowed their family to have a part in establishing two Independent Baptist Churches with national Pastors and their own missions outreach. They are presently working on their third church plant and they believe that the Lord will complete His work as He has the other two.
