The King Family (Michael & Geri)

Location: Brighton Beach, NY

Ministry: In December of 2002, Michael and Geri made a trip to Brighton Beach, NY to survey the area for a ministry in Church planting among the former Soviet Jewish immigrants.

In May of 2003 we left Miami, Florida after 12 years of ministry among the Jewish people as a Church Planter and Missionary and arrived in Brighton Beach, New York. Soon after our arrival we started “The Brighton Beach Project” for Church planting in Jewish populated areas of New York City.

On June 6th, 2004 the Brighton Beach Baptist Church was established in the heart of 165,000 Russian/Ukrainian Jewish immigrants. It became the first Baptist Church in Brighton Beach in more than 20 years and still remains the only Baptist Church in Brighton Beach proper. Our services are translated in English and Russian. We praise the Lord for His hand of blessing remaining on His Church in this city.

According to a study that was released on June 16, 2006 by the Federation of New York's United Jewish Appeal. The Jewish community in the New York City Metropolitan area is stated as remaining stable with 1.4 Million Jewish people!

The stated report had the following Jewish population statistics out of an eight county area surrounding New York City. Brooklyn had the largest Jewish population with 456,000. Manhattan had the second largest with 243,000. In Nassau there were 221,000. Queens with 186,000. Westchester County with 129,000. Suffolk County with 90,000. The Bronx was recorded with 45,000 and Staten Island with 42,000.

Within a 1-1/2 square mile area of Brighton Beach, Brooklyn there are 170,000 Jewish people with more than 85% of these being Russian Jews. Our area makes up only a small percentage of the statistics given! Thank you for your prayers and sincere desire to "help us, reach them!"
