The Hassler Family (Thurston "Wink", Kay, and Janell)
Location: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Ministry: The Hasslers arrived in Brazil in 1990, before which Wink pastored in western PA for 9 years. The climate in Brazil is tropical and Portuguese is the language of the people. Wink is the main preacher, teaches the adults S.S. class, organizes visitation, oversees the church construction, and a million other things. Kay handles the S.S. kids department, teacher training, and teaches the 7 - 10 year olds. During the sermon in the Sunday night service, she is in charge of the simple Jr. Church for the 2 -6 year old children. She is also involved in visitation/evangelism and is currently involved in a one on one home Bible study with a new convert. Janell has a card ministry with the ladies and young girls in the church and community. She uses stickers, glitter, stamps, and special scissors to make many types of cards. This is an activity that takes hours every week and that the Brazilians value greatly. If she has any nickname here it is "angel". She also is a great help in handing out tracts and she handles the overhead projector. Their son Eric is serving the Lord on the mission field of Trinidad/Tobago with his wife and two children.
