The Hall Family (Jon, Marie, Sara, Rachel, Hannah, David, and Daniel)

Location: Australia

Ministry: Jon was saved in September of 1979 while attending a Christian high school in South Florida. His mother had encouraged her children to attend a Bible-believing church and even attended with them at times. Jon heard the Gospel repeatedly, and finally accepted Christ as his Saviour just a few weeks after he began attending the Christian school. As a result of the influence Jon received from some of the staff men at the church and school, Jon dedicated his life to reaching and influencing others with the Bible. He enrolled at Fairhaven Baptist College in 1983 and graduated five years later.

Marie was born in Washington, DC, but soon moved to Indiana. After attending a Bible church for several years with her family, her parents began attending Fairhaven where Marie and her siblings were going to school. Marie was saved at the age of 15, and soon afterward enrolled at Fairhaven Baptist College.

Jon and Marie met at Fairhaven and were married one year before Jon’s graduation and ordination. In 1989, Jon and Marie joined the staff of Heritage Baptist Church and Christian School in Woodbridge, VA. They spent the next six years ministering in the church and school, the bus routes, the Sunday School classes, the youth departments, and the music ministry.

The Halls were very happy serving the Lord at Heritage, and the Lord gave them three beautiful daughters. They would have stayed at Heritage for the rest of their lives had the Lord not led otherwise. As the church missionary family grew from 40 to 100 missionaries, the Halls became increasingly burdened for the mission field. In November of 1983 during a church missions conference, God led Jon and Marie to become missionaries to Australia!

Jon and Marie affiliated with Fundamental Baptist World-Wide Mission and began deputation in 1994. In 1997, the Halls arrived in Australia and helped a missionary church for their first term. In 2002, they started a new church in the northern suburbs of Sydney - Northern Baptist Church. Their plan is to bring an Aussie to work with them as soon as possible and for that man to become the pastor so Jon can leave and start another church elsewhere.

Since arriving in Australia, God has given the Halls two more children. David and Daniel were “made in Australia”! The Halls are Bible-believing, evangelistic, and burdened for the people of Australia. Jon has been a weekly lecturer and chapel speaker at Sydney Bible Baptist College for more than 5 years. In their ministry at NBC, God has allowed the Halls to see many Aussies come to know the Lord and be baptized.

The spiritual scene in Australia is nearly as dry as the climate. This drought-plagued land is home to 20 million “lucky” inhabitants who are not very interested in spiritual matters. By world standards, Aussies are materialistic and affluent. They are a laid-back lot who are as friendly and open as any people on earth - until spiritual matters are brought up. The attitudes of “She’ll be right” and “No worries, Mate” permeate their spiritual culture and hinder them even considering their sinfulness and the truth of the Gospel.

May God use the Halls to win many Aussies to Christ and see them serving the Lord faithfully in the ministry!
